MEng Computer Science Student, University of Warwick

About Me

Hi! I'm Ben, studying Computer Science at the University of Warwick. I have a passion for technology, with interests from Machine Learning to Cyber Security. My 3rd year dissertation project focused on AI in Group Music Recommendation, and during my Master's year, I'm working on a project using AI to make computational pathology tools more accessible to researchers. For over 8 years, I have been running my own digital agency, BC Website Design. This alongside my degree means I'm an experienced Web (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, React), Java and Python programmer, but can also use C, Haskell, Ruby and others. I have a strong knowledge of Systems, Networks, Cyber Security, AI/ML and more.

I'm a big music fan and was previously the Station Manager and Systems Engineer of Warwick's Student Radio. I led the overhaul of our studios, software and network after acquiring £20,000 in funding. I enjoy presenting on the radio, and have recently won the International Student Broadcasting Championship best comedy award. I also manage to fit in time to volunteer in my community such as maintaining Kington Langley Community websites. These have developed my written and oral communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, planning, research, attention to detail and time management skills.

BC Search

Using Python, I developed a website-scraping bot, which collected key information about websites it visited. I incorporated this information into my own search engine, BC Search. This project allowed me to develop my knowledge of database design (to store large volumes of data and access it quickly) as well as developing a ranking algorithm.
